Let's be honest, it's never pleasant not to receive any news after an application. There could be various reasons why the temp agency hasn't contacted you yet. These could be legitimate reasons, such as being busy or dealing with an emergency at the office. But it could also be something trivial: they might have simply forgotten.
What can you do?
- Wait a little longer: Did you just apply? Give the temp agency some time to call you back. A day or two is ideal.
- Call them yourself: Is it taking too long for you? Call the agency to ask for feedback.
- Send an email: Don't want to call or don't feel comfortable doing so? Then send an email. Make sure to be polite and courteous in your message, and remind them who you are and the position you applied for.
- Look for alternatives: If the temp agency doesn't respond despite your attempts to contact them, that's not okay. Feel free to look for other agencies. There are plenty of other temp agencies that can help you find a job.
Make arrangements during the interview
At the end of the interview, ask when you can expect to hear back and what the next steps in the process will be. This way, you'll know when to keep your phone close and when you can follow up. Agree on a specific timeframe for receiving news. If the agency hasn't contacted you by then, take the initiative to follow up with them.
